RECENT OPPORTUNITIES
As is our general practice, visits to libraries and events tied in with our Annual General Meeting have been free, but with priority to Aslib members if places are restricted. Training events are priced differently for members and non-members, though both are welcome to come. Recent events have included the following:
25th September 2008: Copyright: Life after the Gowers Review was a workshop by Mike Heaney, who explain how implementing the report would affect users, teaching and research, libraries and others.
17th July 2008: A Visit to Mary Seacole Library was an opportunity to see one of the largest and newest specialist health libraries in the country.
17th January 2008: Improve your employability was presented by Lawraine Wood and aimed at anyone looking for a job for the first time, or seeking to change or improve the job they currently had. The session covered job-seeking strategies, CVs, improving interview techniques, and so forth. All useful stuff - especially in the early years of your career, or at times when you feel you really need a change!
6th March 2007: Phil Bradley gave us an overview of Web2 and Emerging Technology. The web is bursting out into new generation services and Phil took us on a fascinating tour through weblogs, RSS, wikis, creating portal pages, podcasting, social bookmarking and so on. Every single delegate described the session as excellent in their feedback. And it was!
